Q. What is the difference between the South Rim and the West Rim? The South Rim is the wider and deeper part of the canyon. It is the more commercialized part of the Grand Canyon. Over 90% of Grand Canyon visitors travel to the South Rim and its Grand Canyon Village where amenities and lodging comforts are more amiable to family travel adventure. The South Rim is open year-round and offers over 2,000 hotel rooms and in addition to hotels, it bustles with lodging accommodations, restaurants, museums, souvenir shopping and the convenience of park ranger services and programs. The West Rim is just as beautiful, but far more rustic and undeveloped. This part of the canyon is also known as "Indian Country" due to the number of Indian Reservations that occupy the land. They're all beautiful with awesome views. Q. What's the best time of year to visit the Grand Canyon South Rim? Anytime of year is a good time to visit the Canyon. Each season has it's own special rewards. For backpacking and hiking on the south rim the best time of year is early (late September through late November) and mid-spring (April and May). Summers on the south rim are warm and mild but summer in the inner canyon is brutally hot with temperatures well over 110 degrees F (43 C). Winter comes to the south rim by early December and you can expect snow anytime through March. It typically does not snow very much, only a few inches (10 cm) at a time, and the snow usually gets a chance to melt between storms. Occasionally a bigger storm hits that will dump a foot (30 cm) or more of snow and that will stick around for a while and may close some of the roads in the area for up to a day. Seeing the Canyon with snow on the rim is an experience that only a small percentage of the total visitors get. The beauty of this vista has to be seen to be believed. Q. Which month is the best month to go? During June, July, and August, many families enjoy their vacations. During the summer, daytime temperatures range from 80 to 100 degrees, with a 10-to-20 degree drop at night. Temperatures are a bit milder in the spring and fall, and these are very pleasant times to be in the Canyon. Many wildflowers are in bloom in April and May. Q. What is the weather like in November and December at the Grand Canyon? Typically around 60 degrees fahrenheit, the weather does not normally cause a disruption to our schedule and we find that our customers enjoy the different colors and contrasts of the winter months. It can snow at the Canyon and looks very impressive. Q. Is the Grand Canyon temperature warmer than in Las Vegas? The temperature is typically 5-10 degrees warmer than the temperature in Las Vegas in the bottom of the canyon, the rim of the canyon is usually about 15 degrees cooler. Q. What is the best time of day to take pictures at the Grand Canyon? Typically the afternoon has less haze and the sun hits the canyon just right. Needless to say, it's beautiful at all times but the afternoon is better for pictures. Q. Is the Grand Canyon South Rim National park wheel chair accessible? Many of the facilities in the park are historic and some do not meet current accessibility standards. Please write for a copy of: Accessibility Guide PO Box 129 Grand Canyon, AZ 86023 Q. What if our tour bus is delayed due to traffic? Will our park time be shortened? Will our park time be shortened? No. We make every attempt possible to ensure the tour duration described. Naturally, we cannot control any restrictions that may be imposed by the park itself. Q. What is the additonal Hoover Dam "Discovery" Tour? The Discovery Tour is a way to see, learn and appreciate what Hoover Dam is all about. This self-paced government tour was created to meet the public interest in visiting the dam and provide a quality, informative visit, while recognizing that certain security precautions must be taken to protect the facility, the workers and the visiting public. Talks by our guide staff, are presented at a number of separate locations, within the visitor facilities and various locations on top of the Dam. A ticket is required to explore the Tour Center and Dam exhibits. Click here to read more about the Discovery tour Q. Which Hoover Dam Tour Should I take? All of our Hoover Dam Tours are great! However, our Hoover Dam Comedy bus tour has been our best selling tour the last two years in a row. Q. Why do I need to give you my body weight if I'm taking an air or helicopter tour? For your safety, the aircraft must be weight balanced. The passenger body weights are input into a computer, which determines where you will sit on the aircraft. Q. How many people fit in the helicopter? The helicopters hold 6 passengers. two ride in the front next to the pilot, and foour ride in the back. Every seat is a great view! Q. Can ashes be dropped from a helicopter or airplane? Ashes cannot be dropped from any of the air tours. You would need to charter a private helicopter or airplane. Q. Are the airplanes & helicopters pressurized? No, smaller, low altitude aircraft like helicopters are not pressurized. The altitude is not high enough for this to be necessary. However the airplane flights are pressurized. Q. What is the safety record of your helicopter operators? The helicopter tours that we are offering to you have a very successful safety record. The helicopter company we use is the most experienced and the largest in Nevada. We use one company only, for this company has earned our trust. Their helicopters have been seen in recent films such as America's Sweethearts and Ocean's 11. They have been voted Best Helicopter Company in Nevada 5 years in a row by Nevada Magazine. And they are the only helicopter company in Nevada to receive the FAA Diamond award. Statistically speaking you are more likely to be in an accident driving to the airport than flying in a helicopter. Q. Can I take pictures from inside the airplane or helicopter? Yes! The helicopter tours provide an exciting opportunity for photography. Q. Can I smoke in the tour vehicle? Sorry, no. However there will be stops on most tours to allow you to have a smoke break. Q. Can I drink alcohol in the tour vehicle? Sorry, no. Q. Do the motor coaches provide wheelchairs? Sorry, No. However you can rent a wheelchair for the day from security at most Hotels. Q. There is NO additional cost for this service. Q. It's my birthday/anniversary/wedding/honeymoon! Can I arrange for a little extra for my trip? Please note your special day when reserving your tour and we'll be sure to let everybody know. Typically staff can say or sing happy birthday if requested and perhaps a toast with lunch, depending on the flexibility of our tour providers. Cake can occassionally be pre-ordered at an extra cost. Q. Can I make special requests regarding the food on my tour? Kosher, no mayo, Vegetarian etc. Most of our tours allow for flexability in ordering food. Please let us know at the time of reserving your tour. Q. What hotels do you pick up from? We pick up at almost all Las Vegas hotels along the strip, close to the strip and downtown. However the Hoover Dam Comedy Bus Tour is limited to only 6 hotel pickup points. See tour details for more info. Q. Where will I be picked up if I am staying at a private residence? How does this work? When you order your tour, please let us know that you are staying at a private residence and in the comment section of the order form let us know what the nearest, largest street intersection from where you are staying. From the information you provide we will let you know what hotel you will need to drive for you to get picked up. You can park at the hotel in the Valet parking for free. If you would like, please call us toll free to discuss this with a tour reservation specialist. Q. Will the vehicle that picks us up at the hotel be the same vehicle for the tour? On most tours yes. However some tours you will be picked up in a shuttle van and taken to a terminal checkin to be combined with other hotel pickups and board a Motor Coach. This saves you the time of having to stop at other passengers' hotels. Q. What do I do if the Hotel Pickup is late? Traffic is now becoming a sad fact due to Las Vegas' popularity in living here. We experience rush hours in the morning and evening as most metropolitan cities do. Please be patient and remain at the pickup point, we have not forgotten you. Your driver has your name on the manifest and is expecting you. Q. Will my tour be cancelled if the weather is bad? At times, severe weather may prohibit your pilot or driver from safely operating your tour. In the event that your tour would be cancelled due to weather, you may either reschedule for another day or receive a full refund. Q. Will my tour be cancelled if it is undersold? Will I be charged if I need to change my tour date or if someone in my party is unable to go on the tour? You will be fully charged if you cancel your tour under 24 hours of the tour date or do not show up. There is no charge for changes outside of 24 hours. Q. What happens if I am sick or hungover and just don't feel like taking the tour? Again, you will be fully charged if you cancel your tour under 24 hours of the tour date or do not show up. You are buying a seat that is non refundable within 24 hours of the tour date. Q. Will I be charged if I need to cancel my tour? Please let us know within 24 hours of the tour date, and we can cancel your reservation with no administartive fees. However you must cancel tours that include overnight lodging within 5 days of checkin. Q. If I can't find the DATE I want for the tour, what do I do? We're sorry, the tour simply does not run on that day. For example our Hoover Dam Comedy tour operates on Monday, Wednesday and Friday Q. Are gratuities included in the tour price?
